UCForensics is a small wiki designed to provide an overview of forensic science to inform and educate high school students who are interested in a specific area of the field.

What is Forensic Science?

The word forensic comes from the Latin forensis, which means "of or before the forum". In Roman times, being charged with a crime meant presenting a defensive argument before the forum, their courts. So Forensic Science is basically science as a form of legal evidence. Through modern history, identification techniques have been developed and continuously improved to solve missing person and criminal cases: but forensics applies its knowledge from all sciences: from physics with bullet trajectories, through to genetics relating to inheritance.

Our content is split into 4 broad areas:
1. Human Identification;
2. Mitochondrial DNA Identification;
3. Forensic Ballistics;
4. Forensic Anthropology;
